Second before Advent: Using our gifts

The passage from Hebrews talks about the futility of the priest working alone; ‘every priest stands day after day… offering again and again the same sacrifices that can never take away sins.’ At our UB service we considered how each person is vital to the healthy building up of the church.  We all bring our unique gifts, and there can never be a definitive list.  As we continue to build the ‘living temple’ to God in this place, we can all consider where our gifts could be used.  The following are just four of the areas that we have identified as priorities for us.

Please take some time, and where appropriate give this to Kate or Anne.

Giving and Stewardship

Someone who serves in this way might say:

  • I give joyfully to people in need and to projects requiring support.
  • I manage my money well in order that I can give more.

If this is an area you would like to grow in, you might think about:

  • Setting up a direct debit to support the mission and ministry of the church
  • Increase your direct debit a little
  • Look at the possibility of leaving a legacy to help ensure the on going life of your church
  • Or something else you have thought of…

Pastoral Care

Someone who serves in this way might say:

  • I reassure those who need to take courageous steps in their life.
  • I like to care for the whole person, relationally, spiritually, emotionally…

If this is an area you would like to grow in, you might think about:

  • Taking part in training for Pastoral Visiting
  • Finding out about a lonely person who would appreciate a call
  • Joining a group to pray for people who are struggling
  • Or something else you have thought of…

Children and Families

Someone who serves in this way might say:

  • I can present information to others in a way that they can grasp and apply to their lives.
  • I look for ways to connect God’s good news with people around me.

If this is an area you would like to grow in, you might think about:

  • Joining a team to prepare children’s material for use during services
  • Get involved in ministry to baptism families
  • Get involved in a holiday club
  • Or something else you have thought of…

Serving in Worship

Someone who serves in this way might say:

  • I enjoy working behind the scenes to support the work of others.
  • I take prayer requests from others and consistently pray for them.

If this is an area you would like to grow in, you might think about:

  • Joining the sides person rota
  • Becoming a reader for services
  • Leading intercessions
  • Or something else you have thought of…
